How To Perform Steel Club Mills – AKA Clubbell Milling

Steel Club Mills (or Clubbell Milling) is a foundational exercise in club training. Mastering this movement makes other club exercises easier, similar to how mastering the kettlebell swing improves other kettlebell exercises.

Start with the two-handed progression, focusing on breaking the exercise into two parts: a bottom half circle (180-degree) and a top half circle. Proper form involves rotating the hips, locking the arm, and distributing weight to counter the club’s movement.

Single-hand mills can be done with inside or outside mills, comparable to forehand and backhand strokes in racket sports. Key points include maintaining a fixed wrist and powering movements from the elbow, not the wrist.

The distinction between steel clubs and lighter Indian clubs lies in the stance and technique. Steel clubs require an athletic stance for weight shifting, while Indian clubs focus more on speed and mobility.

Heavier clubs exaggerate movements and demand more body control. The video concludes with a demonstration of different club weights, showing how heavier clubs challenge balance, followed by a recap of proper form for mills.
